Welcome to TriangleTrain.com

New Hope Valley Railway / North Carolina Railway Museum (NCRM)

Come out and visit us! The NCRM operates New Hope Valley Railway so that visitors can experience a ride on our historic railroad. Also affectionately known as the “Triangle’s Train”, it travels along 4 miles of historic railroad track through piney woods and over a trestle on an hour-long, round trip from Bonsal to New Hill and back. In addition, on some ride days we also offer food and drinks for sale. Steam locomotive rides are not available at this time but our diesel locomotives travel down the same route and offer the same exciting excursions. Join us as a member and help us maintain and operate the railway and help us with education and sharing the technological heritage of railroads! Please review the Plan Your Visit page for important information regarding your visit. Buy tickets online.

THANK YOU!

North Carolina Railway Museum (NCRM) / The New Hope Valley Railway

Our gratitude for a wonderful year goes to each and every member and volunteer of NCRM, and especially to those who ride the New Hope Valley Railway. Together, your participation makes the preservation and presentation of the technological heritage of North Carolina railroads both fun and rewarding for everyone. NCRM began its 2024 season with featured news stories about our 40/120 anniversary celebration, while we close the season in deep gratitude for record attendance on our holiday-themed trains. The celebration continues as 2026 draws closer and NCRM finds new reasons to celebrate: the peoples and communities around us, new exhibits as progress on our steam locomotive #17 becomes visible, 120-years since the Durham and South Carolina Railroad met the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in Bonsal, and the 250-year anniversary for our Nation.

Pardon us, as our volunteers pause our train operations January through March to perform critical maintenance activities on our tracks, facilities, equipment, and work on new educational exhibits. If you would like to help, stop in to talk with us at 5121 Daisey Street in New Hill on most any Wednesday or contact us a [email protected] Whether you are part of a group or an individual, it’s time to plan your 2025 visits: The train schedule is posted with our hour-long roundtrip rides through the pine and hardwood forests between Bonsal and New Hill beginning at the peak of the Spring dogwood bloom. Buy tickets online. Come for our personalized, custom NCRM museum exhibit tours which continue to be open to the public and free of charge on all scheduled ride days and from 9:00am to 1:00pm Wednesday through Saturday (Wednesday by appointment only) from March 26 to December 20, 2025.

2025 Tickets Now On Sale
The 2025 train ride schedule is now online for ticket purchases. Click on Buy Tickets above or go to Plan your Visit / Schedule to see what is available. Our Halloween and Santa trains for 2025 will go on sale in June or July.

Child-sized ear protection

We have six noise-reducing child-sized ear protectors available in the Gift Shop that may be borrowed for free during the train ride to reduce the impact of the train horn. We are required by Federal law to use the horn for safety purposes. Sitting in the middle rows in the middle cars will also put you farthest away from the train horn. Our child ear protection is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Launching of Adopt-A-Train program!
The North Carolina Railway Museum is delighted to announce that NOW you can adopt a train – locomotive, caboose, or railcar from our collection of heritage rolling stock! Your 12-month, symbolic adoption makes a great gift for your kids or love ones, memorial recognition, or business promotion at the same time that you are supporting our mission of preserving and sharing North Carolina railroad history for generations to come!
