New Hope Valley Railway (NHVR), the Triangle’s Train, is hosting Beer, BBQ and Choo Choo on Saturday, September 30, a family-friendly barbecue and craft beer event.
Each train ticket purchased includes a ride behind a real train locomotive in a covered, open-air passenger car to enjoy North Carolina’s fall weather.
NHVR’s food vendor Chef’s House will serve pulled pork and pulled chicken with a choice of three sauces, Carolina, Sweet Baby Ray’s and Smoky Open Pit, and two traditional sides including, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, cookies or chips for $10.
Several flavors of ice cream from Bruster’s Real Ice Cream of Apex will be sold and for guests 21 and older, craft beer from Bombshell Brewery and wine from Shelton Vineyards will be available for purchase.
The first train departs at 3 p.m. followed by three other departure times at 4:15, 5:30 and 7 p.m. Food, drinks and entertainment will begin at 3 p.m. and continue for an hour after the last train ride returns to the station. A DJ will start the event with music, games, prizes and giveaways followed by live music by class rock band Last Band Standing.
“Fall is a favorite season for many people and our Beer, BBQ & Choo Choo event gives them the opportunity to ride a real train with family and friends, eat tasty pulled pork barbecue or chicken, and get outside to enjoy the seasonal weather,” said Dave Chasco, NHVR trainmaster and marketing director.
